I am the “Casino God”: the Duel player who won for five months and lost everything

A reader turned $200 into $2,000 and $12,000 into $58,000 at Duel. A year later he had lost everything and gambled away money from our charity fund. A true story and its moral.

This is a story a player told me himself. For five months he could not lose. He sent me proof after every withdrawal and believed he had beaten the casino. A year later he wrote again. By then he had lost his money, his health and his son. I have kept his name out of it. Everything else happened.

  • A reader from Australia who played only at one crypto casino, Duel.
  • First deposit $200, withdrawal $2,000.
  • Next deposit $500, withdrawal $4,000.
  • Biggest round: a $12,000 deposit and a $58,000 withdrawal.
  • Five months in profit, with a transaction hash for every cash out.
  • One year later: everything lost, heavy debts, his health broken, his son gone from home.
  • He took money from our charity fund and gambled it. The fund did not survive.

The message

Some years ago I worked as an editor on another casino site. One day one of our subscribers wrote to me. He wrote that he always won at online casinos. He played at one place only, the crypto casino Duel.

I did not believe him at first. He started to prove that it was real.

Five months in profit

First he deposited $200 and withdrew $2,000. Then he deposited $500 and withdrew $4,000. Each time he sent me the transaction hash of the withdrawal, so I could check the payment on the blockchain myself. The payments were there.

Then came the message I remember best. He had deposited $12,000 and withdrawn $58,000. He sent the hash for that one too.

It went on like this for five months. New deposits, bigger withdrawals and a new hash all the time. He was always in profit. He was sure it would last, and he felt like a casino god. I was surprised. I have tested casinos for years, and I had never seen a run like his.

Then he went quiet

One day the messages stopped. No hashes, no screenshots, no reply. I thought he had cashed out and walked away. That is the happy ending everyone imagines for a streak like that.

One year later

He wrote to me again about a year later. He was in a very bad state.

He had started losing. He kept playing to win them back. The urge to gamble had pulled him in so deep that he could not stop. He lost everything he had and then money he did not have. He was left with a pile of debts.

The damage went further than money. His mental health broke down. His wife was barely holding on and staying with him. His son left home and told him he was no longer his father.

The man who sent me a $58,000 withdrawal hash now had nothing, and his family had almost nothing left of him.

We tried to help

We did not turn him away. Our team ran a small charity fund, and we tried to use it to help him get back on his feet.

He stole money from that fund and gambled it away. The fund collapsed after that. The money that was meant to help people like him went the same way as everything else he had.

I am not telling this to judge him. Addiction does this to people. It makes a man lie to the people who help him and take from them. That is the illness at work.

Why the winning streak was the dangerous part

Every casino game has a house edge or a return below what you stake over time. A lucky run does not change that maths. It only delays it. Even a fair game that you can check with provably fair tools guarantees an honest result. It does not guarantee that you win.

A big early win is common in the stories of people who end up with a gambling problem. The win teaches you that you are special. After that every loss feels like a mistake to fix, and the only fix you can see is the next deposit. His five good months made the fall longer and harder.

  • You think you have a system. No system beats a game with a house edge over time.
  • You chase losses. You deposit again to win back what you lost.
  • Your stakes keep growing. $200 turns into $500, then into $12,000.
  • You hide it. Family and friends do not know how much you play.
  • You borrow or take money to keep playing.

If you see yourself in two or more of these, stop and talk to someone today.

The moral

I write about casinos for a living, and I will say it plainly. The casino is a great evil for anyone who cannot stop. Winning is the most dangerous moment, because that is when you start to believe. Play only with money you can afford to lose, set a limit before you start, and walk away when you reach it. If you ever feel like a casino god, close the tab.

Where to get help

In Australia, Gambling Help Online is free, confidential and open 24 hours a day on 1800 858 858 or at gamblinghelponline.org.au. Your family can call too. Outside Australia, our responsible gambling guide lists free help services and explains how to set limits or close your account.

This is a personal account. We do not name the player, and we have left out details that could identify him or his family. Several restricted country lists we have seen for Duel include Australia, and we do not know how he held his account. Alex is a Duel partner, as our money page explains. We still tell this story as it happened.

FAQ

Can you keep winning at an online casino?

You can win for a while. Over time the house edge works against every player. A long winning run is luck, and luck ends.

Is a big early win a warning sign?

It can be. A big win early on often makes players believe they have a skill or a system. Many then raise their stakes and chase every loss after it.

What should I do if someone in my family gambles too much?

Talk to them without blame, protect your own money, and call a help line for families. In Australia that is Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858.

Gambling is for adults only and can become addictive. Never gamble with borrowed money or money that belongs to someone else. Set your limits before you play.
